Teleprompter

Also called : prompter, autocue, teleprompter app, prompteur

Definition

A teleprompter is a tool that scrolls your text near the camera lens while you film. It lets you follow your script without memorizing it.

Why a teleprompter helps

Memorizing even a short script takes time and leads to lots of failed takes. A teleprompter frees your memory so you can focus on tone, pace and eye contact. Used well, it’s invisible and speeds up the shoot considerably.

How to use a teleprompter for short-form video

  • Keep the text as close to the lens as possible to hold eye contact.
  • Set the speed to your natural pace, not the other way around.
  • Break the text into short sentences, one idea per line.
  • Example: for a business video, shoot sequence by sequence with the teleprompter and assemble in the edit rather than doing it all in one take.

Common teleprompter mistakes

  • Reading in a flat voice with no intention.
  • Placing the text far from the lens so your eyes visibly move.
  • Pasting in text written to be read, not spoken.
In Flowers

Flowers includes a teleprompter fed directly by your script: you go from writing to shooting without copy-pasting, with the shot list alongside so you know which shot you’re filming.

FAQ

Can viewers tell I’m using a teleprompter?

Mostly when your eyes scan the text or your voice sounds recited. With text close to the lens and short sentences, it goes unnoticed.

Do I need a teleprompter for faceless videos?

It’s still useful for recording a smooth voiceover, even if your face never appears.
