Hooks
Result first
A result-first hook shows the finished outcome in the first second, before any explanation. The rest of the video shows how you got there.
Structure
[Show the result]. Here’s how I made it in [time / steps].
Why it works
Viewers decide very quickly whether to stay. Showing them what they’ll get up front removes the uncertainty: they know what the video is worth before they invest their attention. The result becomes the promise and the process becomes the payoff. It also kills the slow intros that delay the good part. It needs a visually strong result or a genuinely useful conclusion.
When to use it
- For a recipe, a transformation, an edit or a finished creation.
- When the result looks great or surprising on camera.
- For a tutorial where viewers want to know if they’ll get the same thing.
Pitfalls
- Showing a result that’s blurry, badly lit or too brief to register.
- Following up with a tutorial that doesn’t actually get people to that result.
- Slowing down afterwards, when the viewer is waiting for the “how”.

FAQ
Doesn’t showing the result give everything away?
No: you reveal the “what”, not the “how”. The viewer stays precisely for the method, which is the real value of your video.
How long should I show the result?
Long enough to be understood at a glance, often a second or two, with on-screen text naming it. Then jump straight into the first step.
How is this different from before/after?
Before/after relies on the contrast between two states. Result first shows only the end state and builds the video around the path to get there.
